Kenneth Mellanby Hall has endorsed two candidates for the 2016/2017 S.U. elections. This was done at the about 4-hour long stakeholders’ meeting which held at the said hall’s seminar room on the night of Tuesday, April 4th, through the early hours of Wednesday, April 5th.
In attendance at the stakeholders’ meeting were current and past members of both the Hall Legislative and Executive Councils, past political aspirants at SU level, Mellanby hall representatives at Student’s Representative Council, candidates for SU elections, among others. The candidates considered for endorsement were Ogeleyinbo Bodunrin Joseph (OBJ), Ogundeji Benjamin Ayodeji (MJ) and Adole Israel-Godfrey Ogagbolo (AIG) for the offices of President, General Secretary and House Secretary respectively.
The endorsement process witnessed a series of deliberations, screening exercise and voting processes. The first main issue that called for decision-making by the stakeholders was the number of candidates to endorse out of the three candidates emerging from the Hall. It was put to vote and finally agreed on endorsing two of them.
Later on, the endorsement was done through a secret balloting partaken in by 40 voters where OBJ got 22 votes, MJ 28 votes while AIG got 29 votes. Thus, by satisfying the conditions of the simple majority, Adole Israel-Godfrey Ogagbolo, vying for the post of House Secretary and Ogundeji Benjamin Ayodeji, vying for the post of General Secretary were endorsed by Kenneth Mellanby Hall through their stakeholders.
In a statement made by the Hall Chairman, Mr Oyegunle Gbenga Paul, he assured the two endorsed candidates of the full support of the hall.
