The academic staff union of university (ASUU) Tasued embarked on a 2 weeks warning strike on Thursday 26th January, 2017. The demand of the union are payment of 24 month deduction of staff cooperatives, non-payment of promotional arrears to academics staff, non-payment of earned academic allowance. This was contained in a statement signed by the union chairman in person of Mr Bayo Akinsanya alleging government insensitivity to the funding of the institution.
However, the reaction of some has shown that what was said by the state isn’t true. Dr Peleyeju from the department of educational management made it clear that the strike is a 2 weeks warning strike which had been accomplished, he said the strike is an awareness for the management and the state government and they are not comfortable with what is going on around them, even when the stike has been called off but still on negotiation.
Dr. Majaro Majesty of the department of Adult education stated that student of Tasued are very lucky to have a good V.C in person of Prof. Oluremi Oluyemisi Obilade and loving lecturers. He futher explained that the state government is not encouraging if not for the federal intervention, the school have nothing to be proud of poor classrooms, Unstandard environment. He also stated that if the state government want to vindicated that they have been funding the school, they should show the payment recipt to the public.
Some student also react to this, as a student from the department of physics said he is not happy about the strike because it has delayed every necesary thing that needs to be done for example the examination period that was rescheduled. He futher by advicing ASUU to consider the students before making any decision. A student from the department of Guidance and counselling pleaded to the government to consider the student and hear the voice of ASUU
