The Management team of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) organized 3-days capacity building for Tasued Students’ Union leaders which comprised members of the Central Executive Council (CEC), Students’ Parliamentary Council (SPC), Students’ Judicial Council (SJC), Independent Press Council (IPC), College Executive Council (CEC), and College Parliamentary Council (CPC) on the 24th -26th March, 2017.
The leadership training programme held at Camp Young, Ede, Osun State. Theme: “BUILDING TOMORROW’S LEADERS TODAY” was very informative, educative and entertaining with the presence of resource persons from all walks of life.
Mr. Ganiu Oladimeji Atiku (Ex-TASUEDSU President 2005/06) spoke on the “Characteristics of a good leader” and preaches unity amidst the TASUEDSU leaders.
According to the TASUED Vice Chancellor Prof. Oluyemisi Obilade “Pride is not a good attribute of a good Leader” she advised the Students’ Union Leaders to put down the garment of pride and revisit issues and make TASUED better than they met it. Also in her words, TASUEDITES are the only one that can redeem the name of the university and make it proud.
Barr. Olasupo Ojo, gave a lecture on “Integrity and visionary leadership” he said to be a better leader you must work on your integrity and you must have foresight.
Barrister Olasupo Ojo, a prominent lawyer, and human right activist was given an honorary member of TASUEDSU by the TASUEDSU president (Comr. Sanni Rahmon) and Senate president (Sen. Odedeyi Oluwaseyi).
In other lecture, Mr Tomi Olagunju, a lawyer gave a lecture on the topic “Intellectual Unionism” he said the students’ union must be of high intellect in their unionism and academics.
Moreover, Prof. Yomi Omotayo (member of TASUED Governing Council), spoke on “Image Making”. He said TASUEDITES are the image maker of TASUED.
Mr. Femi Olukomaiya (Ex-TASUEDSU ITEC Chairman 2005/06) spoke about his leadership experience while in TASUEDSU and he explained the S.W.O.T Analysis.
Comrade Tunde Oladunjoye (member of TASUED Governing Council), gave a lecture on “Nigerian Students’ Movement and Challenges of Leadership_ The Role of Communication” he explained the history of Nigerian students’ union movement and spoke on the qualities of a good leader.
Dr. Ademola Akinyoade (From Afe Babalola University), gave a lecture on “Leadership, Conflict and Peace”. He said leadership is a trust and he analyzed the ways of handling conflict.
The Rector of Ire Polytechnic, Osun State (Dr. Agboola), appreciate the management of TASUED for organizing such leadership training and he said they will also emulate the training for their students’ union leaders as well.
TASUED Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Arigbabu, also advised the TASUEDSU leaders to work in togetherness and remember their primary assignment in the university.
Nevertheless, the Student’s Union Leaders were given the opportunity to ask questions and answers were given to all questions asked. The training was entertaining alongside sporting activities.
TASUEDSU leaders were all happy and promised to keep to all lessons learnt.
Also in attendance, the Bursar (Mr. Ifeoluwa Odusanya), the Dean of Students’ Affairs (Dr. Durojoye), the Students’ Affairs officer (Mr. Adesanya), the member of school clinic, security unit and others.
